1. Love is a Command from God addressed to whole Self as Self. (“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” Matthew 22:37)

1.1. The Whole Self is bows in subjection and submission before the Divine Command.

1.2. Because Love is a Command, therefore it is an obligation which we are duty bound to perform.

1.2.1. Because Love is a duty and an obligation, before which the whole self is subject (1.1), therefore it is a duty and obligation which holds utterly and completely independently of our subjective state, our feelings, our sentiments, etc, all bows before the divine command. In short this is a command which we are to perform and do whether or not we feel like it, which command and obligation is supreme over our subjective state. Feelings and sentiments are irrelevant to love. Thou shalt!

1.2.2. The Command to Love is an objective obligation defined purely in objective terms external to our subjectivity, as such, the duty is not in sync with our Selves as a subject but instead constrains our subjectivity which is to bow in submission to the command. (“The love of Christ constrains us” 2 Cor. 5:14)

1.2.3. Because love is a commmand, it is a work, an act, to be done in obedience to a divinely revealed command, therefore it cannot be experienced passively, only obeyed actively.

1.2.3.1. Only through obedience to God can we know what Love is. (If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. John 7:17)

1.2.4. The sole ground and reason to obey the divine command is divine authority, not because you feel like it or because you want to but solely in obedience to God. It is a blasphemous impiety and rebellion to say that one obeys God provided one “feels like it” or wants to.

1.3. As a divine command, love is a spiritually transcendent instruction from God, given and spoken to us from without, external to our entire Self, utterly and wholly alien to our entire experience, knowledge, wisdom and reason.

1.3.1. Therefore the entire contents and meaning of our duty to love is defined and derived purely from and by the External Word of Divine Revelation, which is a spiritual truth that can only be received in faith and obedience, not recognised by reason or experience. (Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Cor 2:13-14)

1.3.1.1. It is impossible for us to understand or know or recognise what love means independently of divine revelation and the divinely inspired faith in this revelation, for when the very incarnation of Love himself came to dwell amongst us, far from recognising this divine Love as Love, we had him executed and crucified instead. Therefore it is impossible for us man to be able to recognise or know what love is independently of divine revelation and divinely inspired faith.

1.3.1.2. For this reason does St John warn us against loving the world and the things of this world, for it is God alone who defines love, not the world. (Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1 John 2:15)

1.4. The first work of Love, is to obey Christ’s command and believe on him. (This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. John 6:29)

1.4.1. Just as the obedience of Christ to the Father’s Will sanctifies and redeems the world, likewise does our obedience of faith in Christ sanctify and redeem us.

1.4.1.1. Faith obeys the word, commands and instructions of Christ solely out of submission to divine authority, and in so doing knows God and his love. (1.2.3.1.)
